Recap: South Dakota vs. Western Ill

Vermillion, SD (Sports Network) - Ceola Clark's last second layup lifted the Western Illinois Leathernecks to a 73-71 win over the South Dakota Coyotes at The DakotaDome in the Summit League opener.

Clark shot 8-of-13 from the floor en route to a team-high 20 points for Western Illinois (4-3, 1-0 Summit). Don McAvoy scored 16 points while Terrell Parks registered 14 points and nine boards.

Juevol Myles finished with 21 points to lead South Dakota (3-4, 0-1). Karim Rowson scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Trevor Gruis contributed 11.

The Leathernecks led 31-19 after a low-scoring first half in which USD shot just 27.3 percent from the floor.

The offense picked up in the second half as 94 total points were scored in the final 20 minutes. The Coyotes made 64 percent of its field goals after the break, including 7-of-12 from behind the arc.

Down by 10 with 2:26 remaining in the game, South Dakota battled back to tie the score with seven seconds left on a Myles' three-pointer, but Clark's late- game heroics delivered Western Illinois the decision.

WIU was able to prevail in large part to scoring 23 points off of turnovers compared to just eight for South Dakota.
