Recap: FIU vs. Fla Atlantic

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Malik Smith scored 19 points to lead the FIU Panthers past the Florida Atlantic Owls, 84-65, in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at U.S. Century Bank Arena.

Tymell Murphy stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and three blocks for FIU (13-10, 8-6 Sun Belt), which has won back-to- back games. Jerome Frink chipped in 12 points, while Cameron Bell added 10 points and five assists.

For FAU (11-14, 6-8), Greg Gantt and Jordan McCoy each netted 19 points, with McCoy's total being a career-high. Pablo Bertone scored 15 points in the setback, while Stefan Moody had eight points, seven assists, and six boards.

FIU got out to a commanding 49-28 lead at intermission behind 50 percent field goal shooting in the first half, while FAU was shot only 37.1 percent.

The Owls outscored the Panthers after the break, 37-35, but FIU's lead was never in danger.

FIU outscored FAU in the paint, 52-32, and it scored 33 points off of 22 Owls' turnovers.
