Recap: North Texas vs. Fla Atlantic

Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Roger Franklin scored a game-high 20 points as he led the North Texas Mean Green over the Florida Atlantic Owls in overtime, 66-57, in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at The Super Pit.

Franklin shot 8-of-13 from the field with nine rebounds for the Mean Green (11-18, 6-12 Sun Belt), who have won two in a row and three of their last four. Jordan Williams scored 14 points, Tony Mitchell chipped in with 12 and four blocks, while Alzee Williams managed 10 points and six rebounds.

Greg Gantt scored 18 points for FAU (12-17, 7-11), which lost its second in a row and fifth in the last six games. Gantt shot just 7-of-23 from the field, while Stefan Moody hit on only 6-of-21 attempts as he tallied 13 points.

Both teams shot below 45.0 percent from the floor in the first half and the game was tied 35-35 at halftime.

In the second half FAU hit on 36.0 percent of its shots and North Texas made just 29.6 percent of its attempts from the floor. The game was tied 57-57 down the stretch as both Mitchell and Gantt got off shots for their respective teams but neither could convert as they headed to overtime

The Owls were shutout in the extra frame as North Texas went on a 9-0 run to take the win. FAU was 0-of-8 from the field and missed two free throw attempts.

In a game that featured 11 ties and eight lead changes, the Mean Green won it at the free-throw line where they went 22-of-25, compared to just 5-of-9 for the visitors.
