Recap: UNC Greensboro vs. Furman

Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Bobby Austin led five players in double figures with 13 points as the Furman Paladins beat the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 69-61, in a Southern Conference bout at Greensboro Coliseum.

Larry Wideman and Stephen Croone each had 12 points while Colin Reddick and Charlie Reddick each chipped in 10 for Furman (5-12, 2-4 SoCon) which had lost seven of its previous eight. Colin Reddick also collected 11 rebounds while Kendrec Ferrara had a game-high 12 boards.

Derrell Armstrong and Nicholas Paulos each scored a game-high 16 points and Trevis Simpson added 10 for UNC Greensboro (4-13, 2-4) which has lost eight of its last nine.

Both teams struggled in the first half with UNC Greensboro earning a 32-22 lead at the break after shooting just 36.1 percent from the field. Furman fell behind by hitting on just 30.4 percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes.

The Paladins heated up to 58.3 percent shooting, including a 5-of-6 effort from beyond the arc, in the second half. The strong showing allowed Furman to get past the Spartans who shot just 37 percent in the second period.

Furman had advantages in points from both 3-point range (24-12) and the free- throw line (19-11).
