Recap: ULM vs. South Alabama

Monroe, LA (Sports Network) - Augustine Rubit led all scorers with 32 points and also pulled down 13 rebounds, as his South Alabama Jaguars defeated the ULM Warhawks, 77-72, in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

For the Jaguars (7-6, 4-1 SBC), Dre Conner added 12 points.

Amos Olatayo led the ULM Warhawks (2-8, 1-3) with 18 points, while Millaun Brown finished with 13 points and R.J. McCray chipped in with 10 points.

South Alabama came out strong, connecting on 57.7 percent from the field and took a 36-28 advantage into halftime. ULM made 41.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, including 4-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc.

After the break, both squads improved their shooting. The Jaguars connected on 61.1 percent of their field goals in the second half while the Warhawks were just behind, draining 51.6 percent. The Jaguars had the edge at the free throw line in the half, outscoring the Warhawks 16-8. After trailing by as many as 16 points early in the second half, ULM was able to cut it deficit to single digits, getting to within four points several times in the final minutes, but South Alabama was able to hold on for the victory.

The Jaguars totally dominated the boards, outrebounding the Warhawks 39-15. ULM was able to convert 25 USA turnovers into 33 points.
