Recap: South Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee

Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Bruce Massey came off the bench to score 12 points as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders held off the South Alabama Jaguars, 60-56, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Mitchell Center.

Shawn Jones put up 11 points and six rebounds for Middle Tennessee (12-4, 4-1 Sun Belt), which has won five of six. Nine Blue Raiders chipped in at least three points in the victory.

For South Alabama (7-7, 4-2), Mychal Ammons tallied 15 points and eight rebounds, while Augustine Rubit recorded his sixth straight double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. Freddie Goldstein (12 points) and Javier Carter (10 points, seven rebounds) were also effective for the Jaguars.

After a back-and-forth first half, JT Sulton converted a layup with 14 seconds left in the frame to give Middle Tennessee a 29-28 advantage at intermission.

The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 15 with 10:14 remaining in the game, and while South Alabama battled back to make it just a one-possession contest in the final minute, it could not complete the comeback as a pair of Bruce Massey free throws with 22 seconds left sealed the victory for Middle Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, while South Alabama made only 37 percent of its attempts from the field.
