Recap: Miss Valley St vs. Ga Southern

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Eric Ferguson scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds as he helped guide the Georgia Southern Eagles to a 63-52 win over the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State in third- round action of the 2012 Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.

C.J. Reed added 12 points and eight boards, although he shot just 2-of-11 from the floor for the Eagles (5-6) as they picked up their third win in the last four games. Tre Bussey chipped in with 10 points for Georgia Southern as well.

The Delta Devils (0-8) were paced by Matt Smith who dropped in 15 points and made five steals, while Davon Usher and Darius Tomlin both delivered 10 points as the squad remained winless through eight games.

Georgia Southern opened the meeting on a 15-4 run and never looked back, eventually taking a 33-19 advantage at the break thanks to a late layup by Marvin Baynham.

Late in the second half MVSU was able to cut the deficit down to a mere three points, thanks to a free throw by Smith with just under four minutes remaining, but from there the Eagles closed on an 8-0 run to put the game away.

The Eagles picked up the victory despite shooting only 1-of-5 beyond the arc and turning the ball over 20 times.

With the victory, Georgia Southern will now take on the survivor of the Cal State Bakersfield/North Florida contest during the championship round on Sunday.
