Recap: North Texas vs. Troy

Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Tony Mitchell recorded a double-double with 29 points and 15 rebounds, leading the North Texas Mean Green to a 76-59 win over the Troy Trojans in Sun Belt Conference action at the Super Pit.

Mitchell was 9-of-17 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line for North Texas (6-9, 1-3 SBC), which posted its first conference win of the season. Three others joined Mitchell in double-figure scoring for North Texas, as Jordan Williams finished with 12 points, while Roger Franklin and Alzee Williams chipped in 10 points apiece.

Westley Hinton led the way for Troy (5-10, 0-4 SBC) with 13 points off the bench in the loss. Ray Chambers finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Hunter Williams added 10 points for the Trojans, who remained winless in league play. Troy has now lost three straight and eight of its last nine games.

North Texas converted 13-of-28 field goal attempts in the first half, compared to a 10-of-29 showing by the Trojans, and took a 10-point lead into intermission (39-29).

The Mean Green was able to build on its lead by shooting an even 50 percent over the final 20 minutes of action to earn the 17-point win.

North Texas shot a solid 48.3 percent for the game, while Troy hit on just 34.4 percent from the floor, a number hampered by a 5-of-23 showing from 3- point range. The Mean Green dominated play down low, outscoring the Trojans in the paint, 44-26.
