Recap: Western Carolina vs. Ga Southern

Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Eric Ferguson scored 18 points as the Georgia Southern Eagles defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 72-66, in Southern Conference play at the Ramsey Center.

Ferguson was 8-of-12 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds for the Eagles (9-12, 3-5 SoCon) in the victory. C.J. Reed recorded 11 assists and seven points. Cleon Roberts added 13 points, while Cameron Baskerville and Tre Bussey chipped in 14 and 11 points off the bench, respectively, as Georgia Southern snapped a two-game losing streak.

For the Catamounts (8-13, 2-6), Tom Tankelewicz scored a game-high 20 points. Brandon Boggs tallied 14 points and came up just one rebound shy of a double- double. Tawaski King netted 12 points and seven boards as Western Carolina lost four of its last five games.

Georgia Southern failed to take control of the lead in the first half, but kept the game close, as Western Carolina took a 37-36 advantage before the break.

Georgia Southern made 58.3 percent of its shots from the floor including 3- of-7 from long range after the break, while limiting the Catamounts to a mere 1-of-7 3-pointers in the second half.

Western Carolina was held to a meager 5-of-17 from beyond the arc, while Georgia southern made 8-of-18 from long range. Georgia Southern bench outscored the Catamounts bench, 30-7, on the day.
