Recap: Ga Southern vs. Western Carolina

Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Brandon Boggs poured in 18 points to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts as they defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles, 71-62, in a Southern Conference tilt at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Trey Sumler netted 17 points for WCU (9-15, 6-6 SoCon), which had lost its previous four games. Tawaski King added 14 points and five boards.

C.J. Reed finished 5-of-16 from the field, but made all seven of his attempts at the free-throw line for the Eagles (10-15, 4-8). Brian Holmes chimed in with 13 points in the setback.

The game went into halftime tied up, 34-34, after the Catamounts sank 53.5 percent of their field goal attempts. The Eagles shot a lesser 43.5 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, but managed to keep pace by going 5- of-7 from beyond the arc.

Georgia Southern cooled off to shoot 29.6 percent from the field and go 1- of-12 from beyond the arc after the break. WCU ran off to the nine-point decision by making 52.0 percent of its shots in the second period.

The Catamounts outscored the hosts, 36-22, in the paint en route to the decision.
