Recap: UNC Greensboro vs. Ga Southern

Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - C.J. Reed made all 14 of his attempts from the free-throw line en route to 23 points as the Georgia Southern Eagles outlasted the UNC Greensboro Spartans for a 66-60 victory in a Southern Conference matchup at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Reed also tallied nine rebounds and five assists for Georgia Southern (13-17, 7-10 SoCon) as it notched its second win in a row. Cameron Baskerville contributed a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds while Marvin Baynham just missed a double-double of his own with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Trevis Simpson went 6-of-18 from the field to net 19 points for UNCG (8-20, 6-11) as it lost its second straight game and for the fifth time in six games. Derrell Armstrong contributed 16 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

The Spartans jumped out to an 11-2 lead less than three minutes after tip-off, but the Eagles battled back by converting 13-of-14 at the charity stripe to take a narrow 29-28 lead into halftime. UNCG trailed at the break despite holding the visitors to 24.1 percent shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Armstrong gave the hosts a 41-40 edge on the scoreboard with just under 12 minutes left in regulation by draining a pair of free-throw attempts, but Cleon Roberts answered with two makes from the charity stripe to put Georgia Southern back on top. The Spartans managed to tie the score back up at 48 on an Armstrong 3-pointer, but Reed made two foul shots on the Eagles' ensuing possession to put the visitors ahead for good.

Georgia Southern held a dominant, 50-29 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored UNCG, 19-12, on points off of turnovers.
