Recap: Western Carolina vs. Wofford

Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Trey Sumler finished with 26 points, including the game-winning jumper with just two seconds remaining, as the Western Carolina Catamounts defeated the Wofford Terriers in thrilling fashion, 57-56, in a Southern Conference clash at the Ramsey Center.

Sumler shot 9-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range for WCU (10-15, 7-6 SoCon), which has won two straight on the heels of four consecutive losses. Sumler also paced the squad with eight rebounds and three steals.

For Wofford (10-16, 4-9), Spencer Collins scored 20 points and Karl Cochran chipped in 19 points. Lee Skinner hauled in 10 rebounds for the Terriers, who had won their previous two contests.

Neither team shot greater than 37 percent from the field in the first half, but WCU was able to take a 28-23 lead into intermission by shooting 4-of-11 from 3-point range. Wofford was just 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.

With the help of a 16-4 run midway through the second half, the Terriers took a 48-41 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game. WCU climbed back to take a 55-54 advantage with 30 seconds remaining on a Sumler layup, and while Wofford retook the lead on its next possession on a Collins jumper, the Catamounts had the final say with Sumler's heroics in the waning seconds.

WCU had a 35-26 advantage on the glass and outscored Wofford in the paint, 26-12.
