Recap: Kansas State vs. Alabama-Huntsville
Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Shane Southwell recorded a career-high 16 points and added nine rebounds as the Kansas State Wildcats routed the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, 87-26, in regional round action of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Bramlage Coliseum.
Rodney McGruder scored 11 points for the Wildcats (3-0), who will advance to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden next week. Angel Rodriguez and Will Spradling tallied 10 points apiece, while Rodriguez added six assists.
No player scored in double figures for Alabama-Huntsville (2-1), who shocked North Texas in the opening round of the tournament. Jaime Smith was the Chargers' top performer with four points, four rebounds, and five assists.
Kansas State got out to a commanding 47-11 first half lead. Alabama-Huntsville was ice cold from three-point range in the frame, going 1-of-15.
The Wildcats were on autopilot in the second half as the game was never in doubt.
Kansas State shot 55.7 percent from the floor, compared to 16.4 percent for the Chargers.
The 61-point margin of victory matches the Wildcats' school record set on Dec. 7, 1991 against Delaware State.Game Notes
