Recap: Penn State vs. Akron

Bayamon, PR (Sports Network) - Zeke Marshall scored 17 points, leading four players in double figures, as he guided the Akron Zips to a decisive 85-60 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in the fifth-place game of the 2012 Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Coliseo Ruben Rodriquez.

Jake Kretzer scored 11 points for the Zips (3-2), followed by Demetrius Treadwell and Brian Walsh who both tallied 10 points. Marshall, who made all three of his field goal chances and was 11-of-15 at the free-throw line, was also credited with six blocked shots.

The Nittany Lions (2-2) were paced by D.J. Newbill who tallied 20 points in the setback. Ross Travis registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but he shot only 1-of-10 from the field on the afternoon. Brandon Taylor chipped in 10 points off the bench.

PSU led by as many as eight points in the first half, the squad shooting 5- of-9 behind the three-point line, but had to settle for just a 36-32 edge at the break.

The Zips put together a 31-7 scoring run over the first 10 minutes of the second half in order to cruise to the win.

With the decision the Zips snapped a four-game slide in the all-time series and defeated PSU for the first time since the 1937-38 campaign when the squad delivered a 29-19 victory at home over the Nittany Lions.

Penn State's Tim Frazier, the team's leading scorer with 21.7 ppg through the first three outings, played just six scoreless minutes before going out with a lower left leg injury.
