Recap: Loyola-Maryland vs. Albany

Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - A three-point play by Dylon Cormier in the waning moments of regulation were just what Loyola-Maryland needed as the Greyhounds slipped by the Albany Great Danes, 67-64, in the Springfield Bracket Championship Game of the 2012 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Cormier finished with 16 points for the Greyhounds (4-1), while Erik Etherly led all scorers with 23 points and also pulled down seven rebounds as the team won a third straight outing. Anthony Winbush contributed with 12 points, seven boards and five assists in a reserve role.

The Great Danes (3-2) were paced by Blake Metcalf who recorded team highs with 12 points and eight boards as they had a two-game win streak snapped. Jacob Iati and Peter Hooley responded with 11 points apiece and DJ Evans 10 off the bench.

Albany led by a basket within the first minute of the meeting, but with the Greyhounds shooting 57.7 percent from the field in the period it was Loyola which maintained a 41-31 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Greyhounds managed to hit on only seven total field goals and missed on all four chances behind the three-point line, but in the end Cormier stepped up to give the team the points they needed.

Albany shot only 13-of-21 at the free-throw line and turned the ball over 15 times on the day.

It's been more than two decades since the football team at the University of Colorado hoisted its one and only national championship trophy, and the program has struggled to remain relevant ever since.
