Recap: Drake vs. Xavier

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Semaj Christon scored 16 points to lead the five Musketeers that scored in double-figures as Xavier defeated the Drake Bulldogs, 74-70, in the fifth place game of the DirecTV Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Christon also led Xavier (5-1) in assists with seven and grabbed six rebounds. Dee Davis added 15 points while Isaiah Philmore contributed 10 off the bench. Justin Martin and Jeff Robinson each had 12 points while Martin pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs (2-3) lost despite an impressive performance off the bench from Joey King, who scored 21 points with the help of 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Ben Simons added 20 points while Jordan Clarke recorded a double- double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Drake took a 30-26 lead into the break despite shooting 38.2 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, the Bulldogs' poor shooting continued as they converted only 36.7 percent of their attempts from the field. Xavier outscored Drake by eight points in the second half. The Musketeers dominated inside to hold an 18-4 advantage in points in the paint after the break.

Drake's 23 personal fouls led to 23 made free throws by the Musketeers.
