Recap: Virginia Tech vs. Colorado State

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Dorian Green and Pierce Hornung scored 18 points each as the Colorado State Rams defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 88-52, to win the 2012 Las Vegas Classic Championship at Orleans Arena.

Greg Smith added 17 points for Colorado State (10-2), which made 11-of-24 attempts from beyond the arc to coast to its fourth win in a row. Colton Iverson constantly faced double teams, which opened up the perimeter for his teammates, but he still got into the mix with 15 points. Hornung managed to record a double-double as he also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Erick Green paced Virginia Tech (9-3) with a game-high 26 points and Jarrell Eddie netted 10 points in the loss.

The Rams held a 33-27 advantage at halftime after they hit 38.2 percent of their field goal attempts but just 4-of-9 at the free throw line. Virginia Tech stayed close despite converting just 2-of-9 shots from beyond the arc in the first half.

Colorado State begin the second half on a 12-2 run and had a very impressive offensive display after the break by knocking down 58.6 percent of its shots from the floor including 8-of-12 from three-point range. The Hokies continued to struggle and sank only 31.8 percent of its field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes. Colorado State won the second half, 55-25.

The Rams enjoyed a 45-32 advantage in the rebounding battle and assisted 22 of their 30 makes from the floor to win the tourney's title.
