Recap: Cal Poly vs. UC Davis

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Dylan Royer scored a game-high 17 points as the Cal Poly Mustangs captured a convincing 64-41 win over the UC Davis Aggies in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Honda Center.

Royer converted all five of his 3-point attempts and also accounted for five rebounds and three steals for the third-seeded Mustangs (18-12), while Drake U'u delivered 10 points. With the victory Cal Poly will now move on to the semifinals on Friday to face Pacific.

The sixth-seeded Aggies (14-17) failed to have a single player score in double figures, as Corey Hawkins exited in the second half with an ankle injury and was held far below his 20.9 ppg with a mere six points. Ryan Sypkens was the high man for UC Davis with nine points, but he shot just 2-of-11 from the floor.

A close game throughout the first 20 minutes of action, Cal Poly somehow came out ahead at the break, 20-19, even after shooting just 7-of-25 (.280) from the floor. The Aggies were limited to 8-of-22 from the floor in the period.

In the second half it was the same story for Davis (8-of-22), but Cal Poly picked up the pace in a big way by hitting on 51.6 percent from the field, including 5-of-10 beyond the arc, en route to the comfortable victory.

In a game that featured four ties and five lead changes, the Aggies were beaten on the glass, 39-27, and turned the ball over 14 times.
