Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Houston

Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Julian Washburn poured in 20 points to help the UTEP Miners earn an 80-69 victory over Houston in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Thursday at Bank of Oklahoma Center.

Jacques Streeter scored 13 points and handed out 12 assists, while Konner Tucker and McKenzie Moore added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the third- seeded Miners (18-13), who will take on second-seeded Southern Miss in a semifinal matchup on Friday.

TaShawn Thomas tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars (19-12), who had won their last four games.

UTEP led 32-27 at the break following a tightly-contested first half and the Miners pushed their lead to seven early in the second before Tione Womack followed a Joseph Young layup with a three-point play to bring Houston within 41-39.

UTEP was able to build some separation from there, as the Miners scored the next nine points to take an 11-point lead with 12 minutes to play.

A Womack jumper near the midpoint of the half cut the deficit to four, but a 13-4 swing quickly pushed the lead back above double-digits and the Cougars never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
