Recap: Coll of Charleston vs. Western Carolina

Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Anthony Thomas scored 18 points and Adjei Baru registered a double-double as the third-seed College of Charleston Cougars downed the sixth-seed Western Carolina Catamounts during the Southern Conference quarterfinals at U.S. Cellular Center.

Baru had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Andrew Lawrence added 16 points and Anthony Stitt contributed 11 points for Charleston (23-9) which will face second-seed Elon in Sunday's semifinals.

Trey Sumler finished with a game-high 25 points, James Sinclair added 19 and Tawaski King got 13 points to go with eight rebounds for Western Carolina (14-19).

Though they shot just 38.5 percent from the floor in the first half the Cougars also hit five shots from 3-point range while holding the Catamounts to 29 percent shooting. Charleston led 31-28 at intermission.

After the break the Cougars nailed 57.1 percent from the field and made good on 23-of-28 from the free-throw line to earn the victory.

The Cougars outscored the Catamounts 29-9 from the charity stripe to overcome a game-high 17 turnovers.
