Recap: UNC-Asheville vs. Jacksonville St

Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Ronnie Boggs' tip-in with one second remaining lifted the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a 71-69 win over the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs in a BracketBusters clash at Kimmel Arena.

Boggs finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Jacksonville State (17-10) while Tarvin Gaines paced the Gamecocks with 18 points. Brian Williams had 15 points.

Jeremy Atkinson netted a game-high 29 points to lead UNC-Asheville (15-14), which lost its fourth consecutive game. Corey Littlejohn added 19 points while D.J. Cunningham grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench.

Littlejohn and Atkinson combined for 26 of Asheville's 32 points in the first half on 10-of-15 from the field. The Bulldogs also assisted 10 of their 13 made baskets and led 32-31 at intermission.

Jacksonville State took the lead on a Darion Rackley layup early in the second half and held a slim advantage for most of the final period. Asheville regained the lead with 40 seconds remaining on a Trent Meyer layup but Gaines came right back and netted a triple on the other end to give the Gamecocks a 69-67 edge. Two free throws by Sam Hughes with eight seconds left knotted the score, setting up Boggs' heroic final effort.

After shooting 59.1 percent from the field in the first half, Asheville hit just 34.4 percent in the second half.
