Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Longwood

Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Terence Smith had 21 points and Myles Taylor scored 18, as the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks defeated the Longwood Lancers, 89-79, in a BracketBuster matchup at the Elam Center.

Mike Liabo piled up 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Skyhawks (8-19). B.J. McLaughlin rounded out the team's double-figure scorers with 10 points to go along with seven boards.

Tristan Carey registered a game-high 23 points for the Lancers (6-23), while Michael Kessens recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Karl Ziegler tallied 14 points and seven boards off the bench, David Robinson added 13 points, and Lucas Woodhouse scored 10 in the loss.

LU jumped out to an early 14-8 lead on Carey's 3-pointer at the 16:02 mark of the opening frame. The Lancers went on to take a 43-42 halftime lead behind a 51.6-percent shooting effort from the floor. The first half featured five ties and eight lead changes.

Both teams shot an even 50 percent in the second stanza, although UTM held a key 19-4 scoring advantage from the foul line over the final 20 minutes to seal the win.

UTM committed only six turnovers for the game, as the Skyhawks held a 16-5 edge in points off turnovers.
