Recap: Ill-Chicago vs. Chicago State

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Daniel Barnes registered a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Illinois-Chicago Flames coasted to an 80-69 victory over the Chicago State Cougars in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at UIC Pavilion.

Josh Crittle provided 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists for UIC (18-15) as it won in its CIT debut. Hayden Humes chimed in with 15 points and Gary Talton contributed 12 points and eight assists.

Matt Ross led Chicago State (11-22) with 19 points and six rebounds. Jamere Dismukes added 17 points and Quinton Pippen scored 12 in the setback.

The Flames took control early on and built a 46-30 lead by halftime as they hit on 61.9 percent of their field goal tries including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening stanza. Chicago State managed to convert only 27 percent of its field goal attempts before the break,

The Cougars tried to fight back in the second half by shooting 42.9 percent from the field and limiting UIC to 32 percent efficiency, but they were unable to overcome the massive halftime deficit.

UIC held a sizeable, 43-31 edge in the rebounding battle and assisted 18 of its 21 made field goals.
