Recap: Arkansas vs. SIU Edwardsville

Fayetteville, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthlon Bell paced five teammates in double figures with 18 points as the Arkansas Razorbacks made easy work of the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 99-65, in the season opener at Bud Walton Arena.

Bell shot 6-of-9 from the field for Arkansas (1-0), including 5-of-6 from 3- point territory. Michael Qualls scored 16 points, and Coty Clarke tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Alandise Harris (15 points) and Mardracus Wade (11 points) each had impressive showings in reserve roles

In 16 minutes off the bench, Tim Johnson was the only SIUE (0-1) player in double figures with 13 points.

Arkansas came out of the gates red-hot, shooting greater than 54 percent from the field in the first half, as it went into intermission with a commanding 56-27 lead.

The Razorbacks took their foot off the gas pedal somewhat in the in the final 20 minutes -- their field goal percentage dipped to .483 in the second stanza -- but their lead was never in jeopardy.

On top of shooting just 39.1 percent from the floor on the evening, SIUE was plagued by 23 turnovers.
