Recap: Miss State vs. Texas A&M

Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Craig Sword registered 23 points and five assists as the Mississippi State Bulldogs captured an 81-72 overtime victory against the Texas A&M Aggies in an SEC contest at Humphrey Coliseum.

Gavin Ware tallied a double-double for the Bulldogs (12-5, 2-2 SEC) with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Colin Borchert added 14 points while Fred Thomas had 13 points and three steals.

Jamal Jones paced the Aggies (12-5, 3-1) with 24 points as they had a four- game winning streak come to an end. Davonte Fitzgerald scored 20 points, while Alex Caruso chipped in 12 and six rebounds before fouling out.

MSU connected on 40 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half as it claimed a 27-26 advantage at the half. The Aggies shot 35.5 percent from the floor, but converted only 1-of-6 opportunities at the free-throw line.

Texas A&M drained 61.9 percent of its field goal tries, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range in the second frame. The Bulldogs kept pace by making 63.6 percent from the field. A late steal by Ware led to him scoring a layup with 24 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 67-67. Fitzgerald missed a 3- point attempt with two seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.

With 3:18 on the clock and tied up at 69-69 in the extra period, MSU put together a 12-3 run to close out the win.

The Bulldogs dominated inside as they outscored the Aggies, 44-26, in the paint.
