Recap: Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech

Syracuse, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Syracuse's slump continued Tuesday with a home loss to an underwhelming Georgia Tech squad that had dropped four in a row coming in.

Trae Golden scored a team-high 16 points and made critical free throws down the stretch as the Yellow Jackets upset the seventh-ranked Orange 67-62 in another blow to Syracuse's stretch run.

Daniel Miller filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, six blocks and four assists, and Robert Carter Jr. added 12 points for Georgia Tech (14-16, 5-12 ACC), which held the Orange to 39.1 percent shooting.

Syracuse (26-4, 13-4) is mired in a 1-4 slump following a 25-0 start that propelled the program to a No. 1 ranking.

C.J. Fair, in his final game at the Carrier Dome, scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half, while Tyler Ennis netted 18 in the setback.

"We could win with six guys, and if you take any one of those guys out of there like Jerami (Grant) or C.J. (Fair) or Tyler (Ennis), we're not going to be able to win unless somebody can do more than they're doing right now," Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said.

The already-thin Orange, playing without a key cog in the frontcourt in Jerami Grant, received just 16 points from the rest of the roster.

Georgia Tech led by double digits for most of the second half, but Fair's efforts coupled with the Yellow Jackets missing three front ends of 1-and-1s allowed the Orange to chip away at their deficit.

Fair keyed a 7-0 run that pulled Syracuse within 59-54, though the senior failed to convert the free throw on a potential three-point play with 2:41 on the clock.

Miller put in an easy dunk when Georgia Tech beat Syracuse's press, and a 3- pointer from Trevor Cooney -- his only one in eight tries -- and a putback by Michael Gbinije had the Orange as close as 61-59 inside the final minute.

Golden, though, shot 6-for-6 from the foul line over the final 34.7 seconds, and the Yellow Jackets hung on for just their fifth road win of the season.

"It didn't end how I wanted it to end," said Fair of his final home game. "My season isn't over. I still have a chance to win my last game."

Syracuse held a 9-6 lead five minutes in before Georgia Tech rattled off 15 of the next 20 points to take control.

Kammeon Holsey's three-point play inside the final minute of the opening half gave the Yellow Jackets a 31-23 advantage at the break.

After Fair's jumper trimmed the deficit to 35-31, Georgia Tech scored on five of its next six possessions to go up by a dozen, 46-34, as Miller blocked two shots on one trip and scored at the other end to cap an 11-3 spurt.
