The Eagles then reeled off thirteen unanswered points to take a 65-60 lead with 2:46 left in regulation. The Hurricanes answered with a 7-0 run to regain control before Hewitt knocked down two free-throws with six seconds showing on the game clock to force overtime.

In the extra session, Miami jumped out to the early lead but Georgia Southern answered and held an 80-79 lead with 32 seconds left in overtime. Lecomte's two made free-throws put the Hurricanes back on top and they clinched the victory after Hewitt missed a 3-point try at the buzzer.

Miami finished the night with a 25-16 scoring advantage at the free-throw line, though Georgia Southern was a perfect 16-of-16 from the charity stripe. The Hurricanes also topped the Eagles in second chance points, 20-6.
