Recap: Coll of Charleston vs. Miami-Florida

Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - James Kelly knocked down all three of his attempts from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 18 points as the Miami- Florida Hurricanes defeated the College of Charleston Cougars, 70-54, in a non-conference matchup at TD Arena.

Miami (3-1) also received 15 points from Rion Brown, who went 6-of-10 from the floor. Manu Lecomte added 14 points while Donnavan Kirk tallied nine points and the same number of rebounds for the Hurricanes.

Willis Hall and Joe Chealey scored 12 points each for Charleston (1-3). Hall and Adjehi Baru finished with seven boards apiece. The Cougars combined to convert only 11-of-22 attempts at the charity stripe in their first-ever meeting with Miami.

Charleston jumped out to a five-point lead less than a minute after tip-off, but the Hurricanes overcame the early deficit and took a 40-25 lead into halftime by connecting on 6-of-9 attempts from 3-point range in the first half. Although the Cougars hit on 56.4 percent of their shots from the floor, they still trailed at the break after attempting 15 less field goals than the visitors during the opening 20 minutes of action.

Miami sank 50 percent of their field goal attempts and went 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in the second half to maintain a comfortable lead. Charleston cooled off and made only 38.5 percent of their shots from the field after halftime.

The Hurricanes converted Charleston's 12 turnovers into 16 points and held a slight, 30-26, edge in rebounds when the final buzzer sounded. Miami finished 7-of-11 on 3-point attempts.
