Recap: Miami-Florida vs. Pittsburgh

Coral Gables, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The last matchup between Pittsburgh and Miami-Florida ended in a double-overtime thriller, so it was only fitting that their first ACC meeting be decided in overtime.

Miami's Rion Brown drove to the basket with four seconds left and his team trailing by two, but lost control of the ball as he was going for the tying layup.

Pittsburgh's Lamar Patterson came up with the ball and knocked down a pair from the line after being fouled to give the 25th-ranked Panthers a 59-55 victory over the Hurricanes.

Patterson finished with 25 points for the Panthers (19-4, 7-3 ACC), who have won six of their last seven road games. Cameron Wright scored 12 and grabbed nine boards and Talib Zanna added 10 points.

Brown tallied 21 points off the bench for Miami (11-11, 2-7). which has lost four of its last five. Garrius Adams contributed 10 points and six rebounds in defeat.

Patterson scored the first seven points in overtime for the Panthers to give them a 53-51 advantage with just under 2 1/2 to play.

Zanna then split a pair from the line before Raphael Akpejiori nailed a pair at the other end to bring the Hurricanes within 54-53.

Wright and Patterson went 3-of-4 from the stripe around a Brown jumper in the last 30 seconds before Brown turned the ball over and Patterson knocked down the final points to seal the outcome.

Brown nailed a 3 with 24 seconds left in regulation before Patterson responded with a layup, weaving through three Miami defenders to put the Panthers ahead 46-45 with 13 seconds on the clock.

Manu Lecomte succumbed to the pressure at the other end with the chance to take the lead with six seconds left and made only 1-of-2 from the line and tied the game at 46-46. Wright then came up empty with a desperation 3 as time expired.

The second half was an offensive struggle through the first five minutes as neither team could muster a basket until Patterson netted a trey to spark a 8-2 Pitt run.

Miami responded with a 9-2 burst of its own to knot the game at 39-39 with 4:35 remaining. Patterson split a pair from the line to give the Panthers a 44-42 lead with 1:35 left in the second.

The Hurricanes led by as many as five in the first half. However, Patterson knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to close out the half and give the Panthers a 29-28 lead at the break.

Pitt scored the first four points of the game before Miami tied it nearly a minute later. The Hurricanes took the lead and held it for most of the first half despite six lead changes, four of which came during a span of three minutes.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
