Recap: Notre Dame vs. North Carolina

Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - James Michael McAdoo tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals to lift the North Carolina Tar Heels to a 73-62 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Purcell Pavilion.

Marcus Paige contributed 16 points and six assists for the Tar Heels (16-7, 6-4 ACC), while J.P. Tokoto added 13 points, seven boards and four steals. Brice Johnson provided a spark off the bench with 10 points as UNC picked up its fifth win in a row.

For Notre Dame (12-12, 3-8), Garrick Sherman scored a team-high 17 points. Erik Atkins provided 12 points and five assists while Zach Auguste and V.J. Beachem netted 10 points each. Pat Connaughton grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Fighting Irish were limited to 39.1 percent shooting from the floor in the opening period. Although UNC hit on only 36.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, it took a 27-23 lead into the intermission after it outscored the hosts, 20-4, in the paint.

Notre Dame heated up to sink 50 percent of its field goal tries but went just 2-of-12 from 3-point range in the second period. The Tar Heels coasted to the decision as they hit on 53.6 percent of their shots from the floor and drained 14-of-18 free-throw attempts after the break.

UNC converted the Fighting Irish's 17 turnovers into 23 points. With the loss, Notre Dame dropped to the .500 mark for the first time since 2006.
