Recap: Notre Dame vs. Santa Clara

Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerian Grant scored 20 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish pulled out an 84-69 win over the Santa Clara Broncos in non-conference action at Purcell Pavilion.

Garrick Sherman and Eric Atkins both accounted for 16 points for the Irish (3-1), followed by Demetrius Jackson with 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Fellow reserve Austin Burgett pulled down a game-high 10 boards before fouling out.

The Broncos (2-2) were paced by Brandon Clark who tallied a game-high 21 points and also handed out six assists, followed by Jared Brownridge with 16 points in the setback.

SCU led by as many as five points early in the first half, but the team shot only 38.2 percent from the field in the period and was outscored at the free- throw line, 11-3, en route to a 41-35 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Notre Dame lead reached as high as 16 points, thanks to 12-of-13 at the charity stripe and 48.3 percent accuracy from the floor.

In a game that featured three ties and 12 lead changes, the hosts won the rebounding battle (42-25) and outscored Santa Clara at the free-throw line, 23-9.
