Recap: Notre Dame vs. Delaware
Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerian Grant scored 25 points as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish narrowly defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 80-75 at Purcell Pavilion as part of the Gotham Classic.
Pat Connaughton tallied a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds for Notre Dame (6-2). Garrick Sherman added 19 points while Eric Atkins racked up six assists.
The Blue Hens (5-4) were paced by Jarvis Threatt's double-double with 23 points and 10 assists. Davon Usher and Kyle Anderson chipped in 19 points apiece while Carl Baptiste brought down eight boards and managed four blocks.
Notre Dame shot very well in the first half, going 48.4 percent from the floor and making 4-of-8 3-point shots. The Irish took a 42-35 lead into the break. The Blue Hens kept pace shooting 39.3 percent from the floor, including 5- of-12 from beyond the arc.
Delaware came out of the break shooting much better, making 54.2 percent of its field goal tries. Notre Dame made a solid 50 percent of its shots from the floor. With 2:09 left the Blue Hens got the score within one after Threatt made a layup to make it 70-69. From that point however Notre Dame went on a 10-6 run to close out the game.
The Irish did a good job on the glass by edging Delaware in rebounding 37-27. Notre Dame played well inside on offense as well, outscoring the Blue Hens 36-24 in the paint.Game Notes
