Recap: Baylor vs. West Virginia

Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Juwan Staten scored on a layup with 3.1 seconds left to play, lifting the West Virginia Mountaineers over the Baylor Bears, 66-64, in Big 12 Conference play at Ferrell Center.

Staten scored 15 points and dished out a team-best nine assists in the win. Remi Dibo came off the bench to score 13 points, while Eron Harris chipped in 12 for West Virginia (12-9, 4-4 Big 12). Terry Henderson rounded out the double-digit scorers for WVU with 11 points. West Virginia has won two of its last three games.

Brady Heslip paced Baylor (13-7, 1-6) with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Taurean Prince came off the bench to score 11 points, while Kenny Chery contributed 10. Rico Gathers grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss. Baylor has lost five games in a row.

Both teams came out firing in the first half, as West Virginia shot 46.4 percent from the floor in the frame, while Baylor connected on 45.8 percent of its shots. The Mountaineers took a 36-33 lead into the intermission.

Baylor outscored West Virginia in the second period, 31-30, after shooting 45 percent from the field to WVU's 34.4 percent. But the second-half push came up just a bit too short.

West Virginia had the edge in points off turnovers, 18-0, and in points in the paint, 28-14. Baylor had the advantage in rebounding, 37-27.
