Recap: Oklahoma State vs. Baylor

Stillwater, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Brady Heslip scored 20 points to lead Baylor to a 76-70 win over No. 8 Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Rico Gathers contributed 14 points off the bench, while Cory Jefferson and Gary Franklin chipped in 11 points apiece for the Bears (14-7, 2-6 Big 12), which snapped Baylor's five-game losing streak.

"Obviously, it was a big win for us," said Baylor head coach Scott Drew. "We needed a win. The Big 12 is a great conference and the margin of error is small. As a coach, I'm very pleased that the guys have stayed together."

Markel Brown scored a game-high 24 points for the Cowboys (16-5, 4-4), Le'Bryan Nash tallied 19 points and Marcus Smart added 15.

Oklahoma State has now dropped two straight and three of its last four contests.

"You have to give credit to Baylor," said OSU head coach Travis Ford. "They made shots."

With Baylor leading 66-65, Franklin nailed a 3-pointer with just over two minutes left. Nash answered with a layup at the other end, then Franklin knocked down another triple to make it a five-point game.

Royce O'Neale plucked the ball from Smart on Oklahoma State's next touch and glided in for an uncontested dunk with 37 seconds remaining.

Brown hit a 3 with 13 seconds left to cut the deficit to 74-70, but Heslip converted two free throws to ensure victory.

Earlier, Heslip hit a 3-pointer to stake Baylor to an 18-12 lead with 7 1/2 minutes left in the first half.

Kamari Murphy tied the game, 23-23, minutes later and Nash gave the Cowboys a lead when he hit a jumper with just over two minutes left.

Gathers followed with five straight points and Smart closed the first half scoring with a pair of free throws to cut the Oklahoma State deficit to 32-31 at the break.

Jefferson finished with a game-high 13 rebounds ... Baylor was without its starting point guard Kenny Chery, who missed the contest with a sprained ankle and big toe ... Heslip hit six 3-pointers on 13 attempts ... Baylor outrebounded the Cowboys 32-26.

Extra Points: Snyder and the Beltway radio wars

If contradiction was an Olympic sport, Chip Kelly would certainly be medal-worthy judging by his performance at the NFL's owners meeting but the Eagles coach might have to settle for silver because Daniel Snyder's critics will take the gold every time.

2015 PREVIEW NL EAST: It's the Nationals and everybody else

There isn't much after that. The Miami Marlins are loaded up for a playoff push -- likely through a wild card spot -- and the New York Mets are up-and- coming but still raw. The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, former powerhouses of the division, are going through rebuilds and won't contend anytime soon.
