Recap: Iowa State vs. UNC-Wilmington
Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Naz Long scored a career-high 26 points as the Iowa State Cyclones claimed a 95-62 victory in their season opener against UNC-Wilmington at Hilton Coliseum.
Long knocked down eight 3-pointers as all five starters scored in double figures for Iowa State (1-0). DeAndre Kane posted a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) and had seven assists while Georges Niang (16 points), Dustin Hogue (10 points, nine rebounds) and Matt Thomas (10 points) got in the mix as well.
Chris Dixon scored 15 points to lead UNCW (0-2), which has lost its first two games. Addison Spruill added 12 points and Cedrick Williams chipped in 11.
In the first half the Cyclones shot 52.9 percent from the floor, including an 8-of-18 effort from beyond the arc, while holding the Seahawks to just six field goals.
After halftime the Cyclones hot shooting continued as they netted 51.7 percent from the floor overall and 7-of-14 from 3-point range. UNCW more than doubled its field goal total from the first half but was unable to keep up.
Iowa State outscored UNCW 28-16 on points in the paint and had a 51-32 edge on the boards.Game Notes
