Recap: Kansas vs. Georgetown

Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Tarik Black and Joel Embiid both scored 17 points and combined for 14 rebounds as the No. 18 Kansas Jayhawks easily cruised past the Georgetown Hoyas 86-64 on Saturday afternoon.

Kansas (8-3) returned to Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since Nov. 22 and the friendly confines suited the Jayhawks just fine, as they connected on 54.3 percent of their shots to win going away.

Andrew Wiggins added 12 points and Naadir Tharpe chipped in 10 for the Jayhawks, winners of two straight after setbacks at Colorado and Florida.

Tharpe said it felt good to be home.

"Between the last couple of practices before this game, and coming into this game I told the guys this is going to be a fun game," he said. "Being able to come home and play in front of our fans, we will get to go out with a bang before Christmas break. I knew it was going to be 'turnt up' in there."

Markel Starks netted 19 points to pace the Hoyas (7-3), who had their six-game winning streak snapped. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 12 points in the loss.

Kansas' Perry Ellis took an elbow to the head early in the second half and wearily walked to the sideline and into the locker room after air-balling a free throw.

The Jayhawks' offense struggled momentarily after their second-leading scorer went down, but after the Hoyas cut their deficit to 46-38, Kansas quickly rattled off 10 consecutive points to regain a double-digit lead.

Wiggins drained a 3-pointer to start the run and Jamari Traylor converted a 3-point play to cap it and give Kansas a 56-38 cushion with under 13 minutes left.

"This venue is storied," said Georgetown coach John Thompson III. "Their fans are terrific, they are here early and they're loud. With that being said, it wasn't the venue or the fans, it was the guys on the other bench that I thought played at a high level today."

Another triple by Wiggins a little later opened an 8-1 run that stretched the margin to 67-48, and Embiid capped the rout with an emphatic putback slam with less than five minutes to play.

Georgetown actually led 23-17 midway through the first half but missed its next 12 shots, with half of those attempts coming from behind the arc.

The Jayhawks capitalized on the drought, outscoring the Hoyas 27-11 over the final 11 minutes of the half to take a 44-34 lead into the break.

Game Notes

Kansas outscored Georgetown at the foul line, 31-16 ... Black had gone scoreless in Kansas' previous four games ... Wiggins shot just 3-of-10 from the field ... The Hoyas made 40.7 percent of their field goal attempts ... This was Georgetown's first trip to Allen Fieldhouse.
