Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Derrick Barden posted a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds to propel the Northern Colorado Bears to a 60-58 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum.

Tate Unruh added 14 points for the Bears (1-0) before fouling out. Tim Husskison chipped in seven points and six rebounds to help Northern Colorado pick up the win.

Wesley Iwundu led KSU (0-1) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. D.J. Johnson added 12 points and nine boards while Shane Southwell dealt out eight assists in the loss.

Despite missing all seven of their three-point attempts in the first half, the Wildcats took a 29-24 lead into the intermission. Northern Colorado fell behind as it was limited to just 30.8 percent shooting from the field over the opening 20 minutes.

The Bears stormed back by hitting on 50 percent of their field goal attempts after halftime. KSU converted only 9-of-27 attempts from the floor including just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc in the second half. After Tevin Svihovec missed a pair of free-throw attempts with nine seconds remaining, KSU missed on a pair of opportunities as Marcus Foster missed a 3-point attempt and Iwundu's jump shot at the buzzer also fell off the mark.

The win improved Northern Colorado to 3-2 versus KSU in history. This was the first meeting between the two schools since the 1937-38 season.
