Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Walter Pitchford notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and the Nebraska Cornhuskers rolled past the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 79-67, at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shavon Shields led the Cornhuskers (7-3) with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Ray Gallegos and Terran Petteway helped the offense with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Kirk Van Slyke led the Red Wolves (5-3) with a game-high 27 points on an impressive 11-of-15 from the floor. Melvin Johnson III was the only one of his teammates to reach double figures with 18 points.

The first half of play was a one-sided affair with the Cornhuskers shooting 53.1 percent from the floor to the Red Wolves' 37.9 percent. Nebraska also knocked down 11-of-15 at the free-throw line to claim a 50-27 advantage at halftime.

The Wolves improved to shoot 50 percent from the field and 10-of-18 at the line in the second half, but it was still not enough to claw their way back into contention. The Huskers, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, refused to give up the lead at any point.

Nebraska outscored the visitors in the paint, 36-28, while the bench for the hosts topped the reserves for ASU, 28-14.
