Recap: Nebraska vs. Penn State

Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway scored a game-high 26 points as the Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions, 80-67, in a Big Ten Conference clash at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shavon Shields pitched in with 13 points for the Huskers (15-10, 7-6 Big Ten), followed by Walter Pitchford and Ray Gallegos with 11 points apiece and Tai Webster with 10 and five rebounds as the team won for the sixth time in the last seven outings.

The Nittany Lions (13-14, 4-10), losers of four of the last five, were paced by Tim Frazier and DJ Newbill with 17 points each, but they also combined to shoot only 11-of-33 from the floor in the outing.

Nebraska scored the first points of the night and never looked back, converting all but two of 23 chances at the free-throw line in the first half in order to take a 39-27 edge at the break. Defensively, the hosts limited PSU to only eight made field goals through the first 20 minutes of action.

Both programs shot 3-of-6 behind the 3-point line in the second half, the Huskers connecting on 45.8 percent from the floor and the Nittany Lions 43.8 percent. But again it was free-throw shooting that kept Nebraska out in front to stay, the team converting 16-of-25 at the charity stripe in the frame.

For the game the Huskers, who logged a mere five assists, outscored Penn State at the free-throw line by a 37-17 margin.
