Recap: Richmond vs. Minnesota

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Hollins scored 26 points to carry the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 74-59 victory over the Richmond Spiders in non- conference play at the Robins Center.

Austin Hollins had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Minnesota (3-0) while Malik Smith added 11 points off the bench and Joey King chipped in 10, also as a reserve.

Cedrick Lindsay scored 15 points on 5-of-16 shooting to lead Richmond (2-1). Deion Taylor added 11 points off the bench and Terry Allen secured 12 rebounds.

Minnesota managed just a 40-37 lead at halftime by shooting 38.9 percent from the field, including a 4-of-14 effort from beyond the arc. The Spiders hit a superior 43.3 percent from the field but managed just 1-of-8 from 3-point range.

After the break the Golden Gophers continued to struggle, netting just 35.5 percent from the floor, but it was enough to hold off Richmond, which had just nine field goals in the final 20 minutes.

A 54-37 edge on the boards allowed Minnesota to own a 17-4 advantage in second chance points.
