Recap: Texas vs. BYU

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws scored 25 points as the BYU Cougars edged the Texas Longhorns, 86-82, in the semifinals of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Sprint Center.

Matt Carlino added 20 points and six assists for BYU (5-1). Eric Mike racked up 15 points and seven rebounds, Kyle Collinsworth tallied 13 points and eight boards and Frank Barley chipped in 11 points off the bench. The Cougars will face Wichita State in Tuesday's title game.

Javan Felix netted 17 points on just 6-of-18 shooting for Texas (4-1). Damarcius Croaker netted 14 points, Cameron Ridley (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Jonathan Holmes (10 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles and Prince Ibeh chipped in 10 points. Texas will square off with DePaul, also on Tuesday.

BYU clung to a 33-32 lead at the break after hitting 45.7 percent of its shots from the floor, including 7-of-9 from 3-point range, in the first half. Texas hit on just 35.9 percent from the field but stayed close with a 12-of-19 showing from the free-throw line.

Felix split a pair of free-throw attempts with less than two minutes to play to give Texas an 80-79 lead. Haws answered with a jumper on the other end that sparked a 7-2 spurt to close out the win for the Cougars.

Texas scored 24 points on second chance opportunities to only five from BYU. The Cougars outscored the Longhorns from beyond the arc, 30-18.
