Recap: West Virginia vs. Duquesne

Morgantown, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Eron Harris scored a game-high 33 points as the West Virginia Mountaineers posted a 96-83 win over the Duquesne Dukes in non-conference play at WVU Coliseum.

Harris shot 12-of-19 from the floor, including 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line for the Mountaineers (2-1), while Juwan Staten accounted for 28 points and nine assists, knocking down 14-of-19 shots at the free-throw line along the way. Also scoring in double figures for WVU was Devin Williams with 18 points, to go along with 10 rebounds.

The Dukes (1-2) were led by Ovie Soko who registered a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, followed by Micah Mason with 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting beyond the arc. Dominique McKoy came up a rebound shy of his own double-double as he tallied 15 points and Tra'Vaughn White pitched in with 10 points.

Duquesne led by a basket early in the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 48.4 percent from the field in the period, compared to 54.8 percent for the hosts, as WVU put up a 49-43 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Mountaineers had their issues at the free-throw line (11-of-21), but it didn't matter because the squad hit on a sizzling 64.0 percent from the floor in order to claim the 13-point win.

West Virginia finished the contest shooting an impressive 58.9 percent from the field and 55.6 percent beyond the arc, but just 58.8 percent (20-of-34) at the charity stripe.
