Recap: St Johns vs. Penn State

Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a 29-point effort by Tim Frazier, the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the St. John's Red Storm in overtime, 89-82, as part of the Barclays Classic at the Barclays Center.

Frazier was 17-of-20 from the foul line and added six assists, five rebounds and two steals for PSU (6-1). D.J. Newbill was also outstanding with 25 points and eight boards, while Brandon Taylor and Ross Travis both narrowly missed double-doubles with 10 points and nine rebounds apiece.

The Nittany Lions will play Ole Miss on Saturday in the championship game.

For St. John's (4-2), D'Angelo Harrison led the way with 20 points. Max Hooper came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-8 from 3-point range, Phil Greene IV had 14 points, and Chris Obekpa tallied six points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks.

PSU took control of the game in the first half but shooting 50 percent from the field and 7-of-14 from 3-point range, as it went into intermission with a 42-35 lead.

The Nittany Lions' advantage swelled to 15 points midway through the second half, but the Red Storm came charging back with a 20-5 run to tie the game at 67 with 3:13 remaining. After the teams exchanged a few leads, St. John's was down one with two seconds left when Harrison was sent to the line. After missing the first attempt, he hit the second and sent the game to overtime.

After St. John's scored the first two points of overtime, PSU scored six straight, and Frazier sealed the deal in the final 22 seconds by going 6-of-6 at the foul line.

PSU outscored St. John's at the stripe, 29-7, and committed just four turnovers on the night.
