Recap: Purdue vs. Central Conn St

West Lafayette, IN ( - Terone Johnson scored 17 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Purdue Boilermakers crushed the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State, 109-73, in non-conference action at Mackey Arena.

Coming off the bench was Raphael Davis with 14 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of action for the Boilermakers (2-0), followed by A.J. Hammons with 12 points and seven blocked shots. Errick Peck and Ronnie Johnson both pitched in with 11 points and combined for seven assists.

The Blue Devils (0-2) were paced by Kyle Vinales who tallied a game-high 22 points, but he shot just 6-of-21 from the floor. Faronte Drakeford registered a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, followed by Matt Mobley with 10 points in a reserve role.

CCSU actually led by as many as six points early in the first half, but the team ended up shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and missing all seven chances behind the 3-point line in the period, en route to a 54-32 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Blue Devils continued to struggle from the field (.316), while Purdue converted 55.3 percent in order to pull away for the lopsided victory.

In addition to holding the visitors to a mere 4-of-21 showing beyond the arc, the Boilermakers also won the rebounding battle by a 52-41 margin.
