Recap: New Mexico vs. Cincinnati

Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Cameron Bairstow posted a double-double as the New Mexico Lobos held off the Cincinnati Bearcats for a 63-54 victory in non-conference action at the Pit.

Bairstow finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds for New Mexico (7-1). Alex Kirk added 15 points and Kendall Williams tacked on 10.

Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points on just 5-of-18 shooting to pace Cincinnati (7-1), which was playing in its first road game of the season. Troy Caupain chipped in 11 points and Justin Jackson chimed in with 10.

New Mexico shot at a 42.9 percent clip in the first half and held the Bearcats to just 26.7 percent shooting. However the Lobos had a 15-point lead in the period slashed to seven points at the break (27-20) as the Bearcats closed the frame on an 8-0 run.

Despite cutting their deficit to as little as three points in the second half the Bearcats could never take the lead as they hit just 32.3 percent from the field. New Mexico held on by knocking down 56.5 percent of its field goal tries.

Cincinnati forced nearly twice as many turnovers (15) as it committed (eight). New Mexico outscored the Bearcats 34-24 in the paint.
