Recap: Xavier vs. Butler

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Semaj Christon scored 20 points and tallied eight assists as the Xavier Musketeers recorded a 79-68 victory over the Butler Bulldogs in a Big East Conference game at the Cintas Center.

Matt Stainbrook put up 17 points and seven rebounds for Xavier (12-3, 2-0 Big East), which has won seven straight. Justin Martin chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds and Dee Davis contributed 12 points.

Kyle Marshall recorded 14 points to pace Butler (10-4, 0-2), which has lost back-to-back games after a five-game winning streak. Kellen Dunham added 11 points and Elijah Brown chimed in with 10.

It was Butler that led, 42-37, at halftime. The Bulldogs shot at a 60.9 percent clip, while holding the Musketeers to 56.7 percent, to enter the break with the lead.

The roles reversed for each team after the break. Xavier improved to 56 percent shooting and held Butler to only nine field goals to claim the win.

Butler had nearly twice as many turnovers (15) as Xavier (eight). The Musketeers outscored the Bulldogs in the paint, 36-24.
