Recap: DePaul vs. Oregon State

Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Garrett notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists for the DePaul Blue Demons as they polished off the Oregon State Beavers, 93-81, at Allstate Arena.

Garrett shot 6-of-6 at the free-throw line for the Blue Demons (4-3) and Cleveland Melvin scored a team-best 23 points on 9-of-14 from the field. Brandon Young tallied 21 points on 7-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the line. Sandi Marcius and Tommy Hamilton also scored in double digits with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Devon Collier lit it up for a game-high 32 points for the Beavers (3-2), shooting 10-of-12 from the field and 12-of-15 from the stripe, grabbing nine rebounds along the way. Roberto Nelson followed suit with 19 points on 8-of-13 from the floor.

Both teams knocked down 15 shots from the field in the first half of play, but the Blue Demons had an advantage at the line, shooting 10-of-13, compared with 7-of-9 for the Beavers. DePaul took a slight 43-39 lead into halftime.

In the second half the Beavers shot an outstanding 71.4 percent from the field, but the Blue Demons made more total baskets, including 3-of-5 from the perimeter. DePaul led by as many as 20 points with 6:28 left to play.

The Blue Demons grabbed 29 rebounds to the Beavers' 22 and outscored their opponent 16-6 on fast-break points. OSU's impressive 60 percent field goal shooting percentage for the game fails to tell the story of their struggles from the perimeter, where they only sank 3-of-11. The Beavers also turned the ball over 17 times and were unable to climb back into the game.
