Recap: Seton Hall vs. Monmouth

Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrik Auda registered a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Seton Hall Pirates to a 82-66 win over the Monmouth Hawks in a non-conference tilt at the Prudential Center.

Sterling Gibbs added 16 points and a team-high four assists for the Pirates (3-1) while Stephane Manga chipped in 14 points.

Deon Jones paced the Hawks (1-2) with 24 points and seven boards. Andrew Nicholas added 11 points and Justin Robinson added five assists for Monmouth.

The Pirates applied strong defensive pressure to force Monmouth into 12 turnovers in the first half. Seton Hall converted the miscues into 17 points and converted 13-of-14 attempts at the free-throw line to take a 38-25 lead into halftime. In addition the empty possessions, the Hawks struggled to connect on their shots and went 8-of-22 from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

Seton Hall shot 64 percent from the floor after the intermission to put the game out of reach. The Hawks were outscored, 28-16, in the paint in the second period.

The Pirates outrebounded Monmouth, 37-28, which helped them tally 14 second chance points to the Hawks' seven.
