Recap: St Johns vs. Bucknell

Queens, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Phil Greene IV notched 16 points as the St. John's Red Storm knocked off the Bucknell Bison, 67-63, at Carnesecca Arena.

Greene IV converted 7-of-12 from the field for the Red Storm (2-1). D'Angelo Harrison notched 12 points, JaKarr Sampson added 11 points and six rebounds, and Chris Obekpa blocked seven shots.

Cameron Ayers netted a game-high 25 points for the Bison (2-2), shooting 9- of-15 from the field and 4-of-4 from the stripe. Brian Fitzpatrick netted 12 points, and Dom Hoffman posted 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Red Storm failed to get productivity from the perimeter early on, as they shot only 1-of-8 from 3-point range in the first 20 minutes. The Bison shot a confident 53.6 percent from the field during that stretch, including 3-of-6 from long distance, and they went up 35-32 at the halfway mark.

Bucknell could not match its strong start and shot only 39.3 percent from the field for the rest of the contest. St. John's found the offensive consistency it was lacking the opening half and shot 46.4 percent. After retaking the lead with 8:56 left on a Greene IV jumper, the Red Storm would hang on to finish strong.

Turnovers made the difference in this one, as 12 by Bucknell led to 14 points for St. John's, who only committed half as many turnovers in the contest. The Storm also outscored their opponent on fast-break points, 13-3.

I really do try my best not to hate anyone, seeing as how that word can be thrown around rather easily, which is why it was so tough watching the Florida State-Louisville game on Thursday night.
