Recap: UCF vs. SMU

Orlando, FL ( - Markus Kennedy scored 15 points and brought down eight rebounds as the SMU Mustangs claimed a 58-46 win over the UCF Knights in an American Athletic Conference clash at CFE Arena.

Nic Moore tallied 11 points for the Mustangs (13-4, 3-2 AAC), while Nick Russell posted eight points and four assists.

Tristan Spurlock registered 11 points and Staphon Blair cleared seven boards for the Knights (9-7, 4-3), as they posted a third straight loss.

UCF shot 28.6 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-14 from 3-point range. SMU managed to connect on 32 percent of its field goal attempts as the two teams were tied at 22 after one period. Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball as the Knights and Mustangs had 10 and nine turnovers, respectively.

SMU turned it on in the second frame by making 56 percent of its attempts from the floor. The Knights converted on just 35 percent of their field goal tries. The Mustangs went on a 15-2 run midway through the stanza to pull away from UCF.

The Mustangs dominated play inside as they outscored the Knights 38-14 in the paint.
